Create a project

A Preternatural project represents one application in either the sandbox or production environment. It groups the provider accounts, products, customers, and usage records for that application.

Creating a project also creates its Free product.

Before you begin

Sign in to the Preternatural dashboard .

Decide whether you want to create the project in sandbox or production:

  • Use Sandbox while developing and testing your integration.
  • Use Production for real customers and provider activity.

Choose an environment

Use the environment toggle in the dashboard header to select Sandbox or Production before creating the project.

The dashboard shows only the projects and data that belong to the selected environment. Switching environments does not move or copy a project.

Most integrations should begin in sandbox. See Sandbox mode for information about environment isolation and sandbox customers.

Create the project

Open the projects page

Go to the Projects page .

Select the environment

Confirm that the environment toggle in the dashboard header shows Sandbox or Production, depending on where you want to create the project.

Open the creation dialog

Select Create project or the + button in the project list.

Enter a project name

Enter a name that identifies the application. You can change the display name later.

Create the project

Select Create.

Preternatural creates the project and its Free product. When you are online, the dashboard opens the new project after creation.

Find the project ID

Preternatural assigns a unique ID to every project. You will use this ID when configuring the Client SDK and making requests through the Preternatural gateway.

You can find the project ID:

  • Below the project name on the project page.
  • At the end of the project URL:
https://preternatural.ai/dashboard/projects/<project-id>

WARNING

TODO: Make the dashboard project ID more visible and click-to-copy MODEM-907

The project ID identifies the project but does not grant access to it. Authentication credentials and customer tokens must still be kept secret.

Next steps

  1. Add a provider account to connect OpenAI, Anthropic, or another supported provider.
  2. Configure a product to choose which provider accounts and models customers can use.
